• Combination of high strength and high ductility: VIZAG TMT bars have rare combination of high strength with excellent ductility. The tensile to yield strength ratios are always greater than 1.12. In normal bars, the increase in the yield strength of the bars is accompanied by the loss of percent elongation. But in the case of VIZAG TMT bars this loss is negligible and the percent elongation values are much higher than normally specified in various International Standards. In Fe 500D grade rebars the UTS/YS ratio values are maintained always at more than 1.15.
• Resistance to ageing: The tests carried out on the VIZAG TMT bars, indicate that no significant change of strength as a function of time occurs which could affect the usefulness of these bars.
• Superior corrosion resistance: The absence of Eutectoid Carbides and pearlite colonies in VIZAG TMT, absence of stresses because of tempering, presence of martensitic layer at the outside surface and formation of adherent scale film due to water quenching during rolling are the reasons for better corrosion resistance properties of these reinforcement bars.
• Excellent bendability and workability: The tough outer skin and the ductile core of the VIZAG TMT bars result in excellent bendability. This coupled with a high resistance to low temperature brittle fracture, allows these bars to be bent, without fear of failure around small diameter mandrels. In the reverse bend test, these bars also show good results. In the construction site, situation arises where bars bent are left for a period in the bent condition and then reverse bent. During period between the first bend and the reverse bend the bars may strain age. The loss of ductility due to strain ageing and due to strain imposed from the first bend may cause failure during rebending operations, if the bars are not sufficiently ductile. Test results have shown that VIZAG TMT bars have withstood successfully the bending, straightening and rebending tests after ageing. The bend tests carried out at VSP have shown that these bars could be bent even around smallest dia mandrel without causing any cracking.

• Bond Strength: The bond strength of all SAIL TMT Bars has been tested at the National Test House, Alipore, Kolkata and meets IS 1786-2008 norms. 
• Weldability: These bars are perfectly weldable by normal process of welding with suitable electrodes. They are also weldable without preheating, preferably with low hydrogen ectrode. The weldabillty of bars has been rested and certified by the Welding Research Institute, Trichy.
• Bendability: All bars have lower bend diameter compared to specified bend diameters as per IS 1786-2008, 008, Grade D specification. This allows easier bending with less effort and thus facilities easier onsite works. 
• Earthquake & Fire Resistance: All bars are able to withstand fire hazards when enclosed in concrete up to 600 Degree C, whereas ordinary TMT starts losing its mechanical properties from 250 Degree C. 
• Corrosion Resistance: It is also available in corrosion-resistant variety (NCR) with modified chemical compositions to give enhanced resistance to seismic and corrosive atmospheric conditions.

• SAIL EQR is specialty suited for non-corrosive earthquake-prone zones. For earthquake-prone corrosive zones, SAIL TMT-EQR FICR is more suitable.

• Test For Tensile Strength: The tensile strength , percentage elongation, percentage total elongation at maximum force and 0.2 percent proof stress of bars shall be determined in accordance with requirements of IS: 1608 read in conjunction with IS: 2062.

In line with the company’s philosophy to expand its product range to offer a complete product basket to the customer, JSPL now also offers wire rods in 5.2 mm to 22 mm diameters from its first unit at the proposed 6 MTPA capacity integrated steel plant at Patratu, Jharkhand.

The 0.6 MTPA capacity wire rod mill at Patratu is equipped with latest technology from Morgan Construction Company, USA (now known as Siemens). This mill is operational with advanced rolling equipment such as reducing and sizing mill (RSM), high speed shear, pinch rolls and laying heads along with controlled temperature rolling and controlled cooling to meet the processing requirements of various grades of carbon and alloy steel. This results in improved mechanical properties due to finer and more uniform grain size suitable for rapid spheroidised annealing or high-yield strength with optimal scale weight and type.
